A Dark Rising

Cassandra Montgomery

Player Info:
Name: Kate

Character Audition Questions:

Name: Cassandra Noel Montgomery
Age and date of birth: July 23, 1983
Physical description: Slightly above average height at 5’7”, Cassandra is fair-skinned with bright blue eyes and strong features. Most of the time she keeps her hair its natural blonde color, but from time to time she likes to play with a brunette look. She has a slender build and long legs that make her appear taller than she actually is. This is accentuated by the fact that Cassandra is rarely out in less than a four-inch heel. Though only her twin sister Mira is privy to the information, Cassandra believes her hips and bum are a little too big.
Parents’ Allegiance: (DE, OotP, Ministry, etc.): Both John and Scarlett Montgomery work for the Ministry and though their political leanings were not strong at one time, the death of their only son in retribution for Scarlett’s refusal to assist the Death Eaters placed them fully in the Ministry’s camp.
Personal Allegiance: (DE, OotP, Ministry, etc.): Cassandra’s loyalty is to her family. Because of what happened to her younger brother she’s bitter toward the Death Eaters, but with Voldemort’s demise that’s not a group she’s had to worry about lately. For the same reason, she does not care to associate with werewolves. Cassandra is aware that her prejudice isn't entirely logical, most werewolves were victims themselves, but the loss of her brother hit her very hard and sometimes logic doesn't come easily.
How do people perceive this character:Most people see Cassandra as confident and bold. She's known for going after what she wants, whether it's a grant for charm development or a man that catches her eye. She also has a reputation for hexing first and asking questions later when protecting her family.
Greatest fear: Losing another member of her family, most especially her twin.
Greatest passion: Experimental charms. Charms work is a common thread among the Montgomery women, and Cassandra loves finding new ways to harness magic and affect people. She takes great offense to those who say Charms is a 'soft option' compared to Transfiguration. In a battle, you're not going to be changing mice into teacups, you're going to be throwing hexes. That's Charms.
Aspiration: Cassandra would like to create a spell that's revolutionary. She's young yet, though, so that's a long way off.
Greatest Positive Attribute: Fierce devotion and loyalty. If Cassandra loves you, she's going to do everything in her power to ensure you're safe, well, and happy. Anyone who poses a threat to that is in for a difficult time.
Biggest Fault: Fierce devotion and loyalty. Cassandra's protection isn't always necessary or welcomed, but that doesn't deter her from doing what she thinks is best.
Happiest Memory: When Mira was sorted into Slytherin. While Cassandra has always been the more vocal and outgoing of the twins and she's fiercely protective of her sister, Cassie relies on Mira. It's only with her sister that she really lets down her guard and Hogwarts would have been a much more difficult experience if they'd been in different Houses.
Most painful Memory:The horrible days when the family waited to see if her brother Joshua would survive Fenrir Greyback’s attack were the worst Cassandra’s ever known. When he died, she was heartbroken, but it was the uncertainty and waiting that nearly drove her mad.
Does your character value the purity of blood: To an extent. While Cassandra would ideally prefer pureblooded mates for herself and her sisters, purity of blood is not even close to being the most important quality with which she’s concerned.
Is your character "pure-blooded," a "half-blood" or "Muggle-born": Pureblood. Cassandra’s mother is a member of the Rosier family, with lineage traceable for hundreds of years. The Montgomery is also pure, but less prominent.

Describe the character's personal history (however brief or extensive):

Cassandra's early years were spent in happy, if not especially affluent, comfort. The second of five children, her fraternal twin Mira just a few minutes behind her, she grew up in an active home with family that supported one another wholeheartedly. John Montgomery and Scarlett Rosier, Cassie's parents, had married despite the objections of her mother's family, and they were determined to teach their children to judge others on their merits as individuals rather than factors beyond their control such as class or bloodline.

When she and Mira went off to Hogwarts, Cassie was sorted first. It was no great surprise that she ended up in Slytherin, but her excitement over her placement was muted as she waited for the sorting hat to decide Mira's fate. The girls were extremely close and Mira's sweet temperment made Slytherin an unlikely home for her. It was a great relief when they were placed together. Cassandra knew it was only because her sister had made the decision herself, and she vowed Mira would never regret it. It didn't take long for their Housemates to learn that it was not acceptable to pester the 'good' twin.

A number of changes came to the Montgomerys during Voldemort's second rise. Scarlett inherited the Rosier fortune, and the family moved to the estate that had been home to Cassandra's maternal grandparents. Their newfound wealth didn't do much to change the family, though the kids had a great time learning the secrets of their new home. Unfortunately, with it came attention from Voldemort. The Rosier family had long supported pureblood supremacy, and when Scarlett refused to continue assisting the Death Eaters as her parents had done retribution was swift and devastating.

Voldemort dispatched Fenrir Greyback to attack the youngest of the Montgomery's, Cassandra's five year old brother Joshua. Despite the best efforts of the healers at St. Mungo's, he passed away from his injuries. The entire family was rocked by the loss of Joshua, and it left Cassie with a deep-seated dislike for and bitterness toward werewolves.

After Hogwarts, Cassandra joined her mother on the Committee for Experimental Charms while Mira went off to university. They remain very close and share a guest house on the family estate.

Profession: Cassandra is a Charms apprentice working with her mother on the Committee for Experimental Charms.
