Reese Ashley

Player Info:
Name: Elle

Character Audition Questions:

Name: Reese Cassandra Ashley
Age and date of birth: March 30, 1980 (23 years old)
Physical description: Blond and petite; barely breaking the 5' mark. She has a dainty build, fragile; she's had her share of broken bones over the years. Hazel/green eyes. Sun-kissed for now because she travels a lot, especially to warm places. Very expressive; her face reads like an open book.
Parents Allegiance: (DE, OotP, Ministry, etc.): Uninvolved in politics. Ministry if they had to choose.
Personal Allegiance: (DE, OotP, Ministry, etc.): Reese wasn't actively involved in the war. She was part of Dumbledore's Army, but she wasn't in the last battle. She'd have loosely 'supported' the OoTP because her friends did. Reese is 'lead-able.'
How do people perceive this character: Reese can be really fun to be around, but she has serious attention problems. In the Muggle world, she'd probably have been diagnosed as ADD. Reese has a tendency to get herself in trouble; she's curious by nature and has a serious mischievously sneaky streak. She finds trouble and trouble finds her. Reese likes to push and poke at rules and boundaries, and she is attracted to dangerous things. If there's a chance she could get caught or something unexpected may happen, she's drawn to it like a moth to flame. She can be perceived as flighty, but she's actually very clever. She has a propensity to tire quickly; short bursts of high octane energy all day long.

Reese is a touchy person; like a cat, she'll twine herself around you if given the chance. She doesn't tend to emotionally attach herself to people, mostly because she's never around anyone long enough to form a deep attachment. However, when she does find someone to care about and who cares about her, she holds on tight and loves with all she's got in her. People don't often know what to do with her; she's fun, but she's two and a half handfuls. She's also been known more often than not to poke at people until they become irritated and aggravated. She doesn't have much of a filter on what she says either, and that's bound to attract extremes; amusement or anger.
Greatest passion: Painting and people.
Aspiration: Reese doesn't plan far enough ahead to have any conscious aspirations, but she craves stability especially after her guardian, Alfred, died.
Greatest Positive Attribute: She's daring and adventurous; there's never a boring moment with Reese. She's also very affectionate and loving to those she has gotten to know well enough to consider hers in some way.
Biggest Fault: She's daring and adventurous; there's never a boring moment with Reese and it usually involves trouble. She has a short attention span and often says what pops into her head without thinking about it first. She also has a bit of a prejudice towards 'boring' people.
Happiest Memory: Meeting Katie Bell first year. Her first 'person' outside of her legal guardian, Alfred. (ie, "Katie Kat, you're my person. Did you know?")
Most painful Memory: When Alfred passed away a few years after she graduated from Hogwarts, Reese was absolutely devastated. She convinced herself that 'Al' is still with her as long as she has a small jar of his ashes with her. She painted it so he'd have a 'proper home.'
Does your character value the purity of blood: No
Is your character "pure-blooded," a "half-blood" or "Muggle-born": Pure-blooded

Describe the character's personal history (however brief or extensive): Reese Cassandra Ashley was born March 30, 1980 to Marcus and Lilian Ashley in Llyn Cowlyd, Wales. They were an older couple who had a child late in life; both pure-blood, but not from established generational families. Both were independently wealthy, having made their fortunes as very successful lawyers. They also had investments in both the Wizarding and Muggle worlds, and both were Slytherin alumni.

They lived on a manor in Llyn Cowlyd with their newborn daughter, a butler who was more of a companion, Alfred, and a house elf called Livvy. There were no extended familial relatives to speak of; neither Marcus or Lilian had had brothers or sisters and as they hadn't gotten around to starting a family until very late in life, their parents had passed on by the time Reese was born.

Marcus and Lilian died in a boating accident when Reese was a baby. She had been left with Alfred while they had a weekend away from home and they never came back. Reese was only a year old and she intellectually misses them, but she never knew them. Alfred had been appointed her legal guardian in their will and he was the closest thing to a parent she ever had.

Alfred was well on in years himself when he took over the guardianship of Reese; definitely more of a grandfather figure. He loved the little blond baby left in his care and as she grew up, they were very close. Reese was an incredibly active, affectionate child and most of her memories of home consist of lively blue eyes, happy wrinkles and white hair; Alfred. He was the center of her world, her only family. Much of her childhood was spent traveling as Alfred indulged her impulsive nature to jump from place to place and see new things. She also started painting at a very early age; colorful abstracts displayed throughout the manor.

When Reese went to Hogwarts, she was sorted into Gryffindor. The Sorting Hat fascinated her as it talked to you, and Reese spent a good amount of her time in school looking for it. She met Katie Bell that first night, one of her year-mates, and her life changed. Reese had never had any friends her own age as she'd spent most of her time previously with Alfred, and her and Katie were kindred spirits right from the beginning.

Reese was very clever and smart, but she didn't particularly excel in her studies; she had trouble sitting still and keeping quiet in a traditional classroom environment. In the Muggle world, she would have been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). The most common symptoms of ADD that Reese displayed were distractibility, difficulty with concentration and focus, procrastination, problems organizing ideas and belongings, tardiness, and impulsivity. She was regularly late to class and put off assignments because they were boring and she didn't understand why she had to write scrolls about something she already knew.

As a result, Reese spent a good amount of time in detention while at school. When she wasn't scrubbing cauldrons for Snape (like she ever finished one properly...), Reese was looking for trouble. She didn't think of it that way, but Reese liked adventures and was intensely curious, especially about things she shouldn't be. She got on the wrong side of a few Slytherins more than one time, and had numerous misadventures with the Ravenclaw eagle-knocker that asks a question instead of accepting a password to get in the dorm. Reese also tired easily and could be found napping in the most odd places throughout the castle.

Reese and Katie remained very close throughout the years and were often seen giggling or snuggling together on the common room couch, talking about anything and everything, usually in a language that made sense only to them. As far as Reese was concerned, Katie was part of her family. Reese didn't have many other close friends because most people didn't have the patience for her.

After graduation, Reese picked up with Alfred and their travels again. She continued to stay in touch with Katie through owl postcards and random visits, but much of the time she was out of the country. However, Alfred passed away two years after she graduated just before her 19th birthday - four years ago now. It was nothing dramatic, just old age, but Reese was completely shattered; Alfred had been her anchor, her family and without him she wasn't sure how to be anymore. Much of the time just following his death was spent at Katie's cottage.

When she was able to think past her grief, Reese began to pick up the pieces and start living again. She had kept some of Alfred's ashes in a small jar and convinced herself that as long as she had his jar, he was still with her in a sense and that she'd be alright. She painted it so he'd have a 'proper home' and when she's on her own at her loft, she can often be heard chattering idly to 'Al' while she paints or flits around.

She kept the family manor where she grew up with Alfred, her parents' home, but Reese doesn't live there. It's very isolated and it was where she lived with Alfred. It makes her feel lonely and sad to be there. However, she's kept it because it was Alfred's and hers. She picked up her travels again after Alfred died, but it wasn't the same. She has a loft in London and over the years has spent more time there, nesting, than traveling to exotic places. She still gets wanderlust though, bouts of curiosity about some thing or the other and goes where the winds take her. With Alfred's passing, Reese is rootless, though she's tried to make a home without him.

It's fortunate that her parents left her with a sizable amount of money and their investments in both the Wizarding and Muggle world are doing fantastically well. Reese would be somewhat helpless if she was thrust into the 'real' world with 'real' jobs and all that entails.

Currently, Reese has been traveling through Italy. (She followed Katie and the Harpies last summer when they were there for a tournament tour and stayed because there was so many new things to see and do before she came home.) She's about to return to London because she needs to see her Katie Kat and she's starting to miss her loft; it's full of her paintings and the walls are only half done being painted and are calling for her to add her new experiences in blues and reds and purple and orange.

Profession: Heiress, traveler, painter.

Reese's visual representation is Sarah Michelle Gellar Prince.
