Name: Tess MacArthur Jones
Age and date of birth: September 22, 1999
Physical description: Tess is small, even for her age, and is easily mistaken for younger than she is. She has long, light brown hair and hazel eyes, and is in the midst of losing her baby teeth.
Parents’ Allegiance: (DE, OotP, Ministry, etc.): None. Her father kept his head down during the war, and she never met her mother. Her grandmother is non-magical.
Personal Allegiance: (DE, OotP, Ministry, etc.): None; she's five.
How do people perceive this character: Generally cheerful and friendly, and eager to meet people and try new things. Her speech marks her as not of the same class as she's been adopted into (and makes her new family twitch).
Greatest fear: Having no family; she's already come pretty close, and it would be awful to lose the love she's found in her adoptive family.
Greatest passion: Learning and fun. Tess doesn't know all her letter sounds yet, but she wants to be able to read, soon. She loves to play, especially with Teddy and Uncle Joscelin, even though Gwen makes that face.
Aspiration: To be good so her new family will love her forever, and to learn to read.

Describe the character's personal history (however brief or extensive):

Tess was born to (Muggleborn) magical parents, Franklin MacArthur and Nina Thomas, who were not married. Nina did not want a child and disappeared soon after Tess' birth, leaving the infant to her father to raise. Tess lived with Franklin's squib mother, Irma MacArthur, in the village of Skipping Thistle near Hogsmeade, with visits from her father when he was employed and more-or-less sober.

On October 31, 2004, Franklin took Tess to the Fall Festival in Hogsmeade, and was killed during the Death Eater raid on the village. Tess, frightened and alone, was scooped up by Gwenog Jones, and sent home with Gwen's adopted 'sister' Regan Bole, and her friend Rose Zeller. After much searching, both privately and through Ministry channels after the raid, Gwen found in January 2005 that Tess had no family aside from her grandmother, Irma, and set about locating the old woman.

Much to Gwen's pleasure, Irma proved amenable to the idea of Tess being adopted into Gwen's family, where she currently resides with Gwen, Jonathan Savage, Regan, and oftentimes Rose (and the dog).
